Call for Proposals: Course Content Creation for “Rural Health” Modules 

Deadline: May 15th, 2025, 5:00 p.m.

The Health Humanities Lab at the Humanities Research Center and the Office of Health Initiatives are calling for applications to create online learning modules for a new learning series centered on rural health and advancing rural health outcomes.

Each module will receive a $350 stipend, with payment contingent upon the production of the module before August 31, 2025.  

The modules should be designed to take 1-2 hours to complete and include a variety of scholarly articles, news media, videos, etc., suitable for a range of participants–undergraduate students, staff, faculty, and community members. For examples of the module framework, please see existing History and Health learning modules. Each module author will receive credit for their module, with authorship listed, and the modules will be publicly available in Canvas Catalog. They might also be incorporated into the open coursebook currently in development at VCU, Introduction to Health Humanities.

As part of your proposal, please provide a single paragraph description (150 words max) of your online learning module related to rural health and to advancing rural health outcomes. In addition, if you would be interested in having the Office of Health Initiatives help coordinate and plan an event related to your topic, please include a brief description, including potential invited speakers or panel. (This event could be recorded and uploaded onto your module.)

Suggested topics pertaining to rural health include (but are not limited to):

  • Pediatric Health (including access to care)
  • Reproductive Health 
  • Oral Health 
  • Drug Use and Mental Health
  • Incarceration and Healthcare
